Meta Named Its New AI Assistant 'Muse,' So the Band Muse Had to Find a New Handle

Meta's new personal AI assistant is called Muse. It launched in early September 2026, built on a model the company calls Muse Spark, and is meant to book restaurants, manage calendars and eventually shop on a person's behalf, through a phone app, a website and WhatsApp.

The rock band Muse had posted from the handle @Muse on X and Instagram for years. Sometime earlier this summer, before Meta's assistant had even launched, both accounts became @Musetheband instead.

What happened to @Muse

Neither Meta nor the platforms have explained the change publicly. Muse's own camp has stayed quiet about it too: NME, which first reported the switch on 9 September 2026, said it had asked the band for comment and had not received one by publication. What is confirmed is the outcome. A name a British stadium-rock band spent years building online now sits with an AI product instead, and the band answers to a longer one.

The irony people keep bringing up

Muse has spent much of its three-decade career writing about exactly this kind of thing: machines and algorithms making decisions for people. A band known for that theme losing its own name to an algorithm's product is the detail most of the coverage has led with, and it needs no lyric quoted to land.

What we measured this week

On Google Trends' Music & Audio category, worldwide, over the seven days to 28 September 2026, we found three related searches among the fastest-rising in the whole category: “meta muse”, up 350%; “muse ai”, up 250%; and “muse” on its own, up 190%. None of the three were rising a month ago.

So, did Muse get its name back?

It's the kind of collision we're watching for on global music trends generally, alongside the actual songs on mymy's new-release desk.

Not as of this writing. The band's accounts are still @Musetheband, Meta's assistant still answers to Muse, and the only comment on record is the silence NME reported.
