Is MEOMURU AI? 'The Adult I Dreamed Of' Took a Suno Voice to No. 3 on Melon

Is MEOMURU AI? The voice is Suno's, every single says so, and the words are human. 'The Adult I Dreamed Of' climbed YouTube in Korea before Melon's No. 3.

Is MEOMURU AI? The voice is. Each of the seven singles MEOMURU has released in Korea says in its notes that the vocals were generated with Suno AI, while the planning, the lyrics and the overall production direction were the artist's own. On YouTube, the video for 'The Adult I Dreamed Of' is labelled 'Made with AI', YouTube's notice that sound or pictures were altered or generated. The rock ballad first reached No. 3 on Melon's TOP100 on 13 October, and on the afternoon of 14 October it was still third, behind SOYEON's 'I'm gonna TOESA' and RESCENE's 'LOVE ATTACK'.

MEOMURU (머무르 in Korean) is a project name. Circle Chart, Korea's national chart, lists Glory Wave Sound as the record's producer, and the streaming service Bugs lists the same company as the artist's agency. The Korean title, 꿈꾸던 어른이 되었나요? (kkumkkudeon eoreuni doeeonnayo), asks whether the singer has become the adult they once dreamed of being. The song came out on 23 June 2026 and stayed off the charts for a month. Then YouTube viewers found it, more than two months before it reached Melon's top 3.

Is MEOMURU a real person? What the credits and the songwriters say

The credits and the channel do not tell the same story. Bugs and Genie credit the lyrics, the music and the arrangement to MEOMURU, and Bugs also names MEOMURU as the singer, filed as a male solo act that debuted in 2026. On its own YouTube channel, the project says the melodies and vocals are shaped through AI, and MEOMURU adds the lyrics, concept, arrangement, production and sound direction on top.

Kyunghyang Shinmun, a Korean daily, interviewed Glory Wave in writing on 8 October and published the piece on 16 October. The paper describes Glory Wave as a songwriting team of two, Lee Yong-seok and Choi Seong-hyeok (our romanisation), who have worked with singers such as Gilgu Bonggu and Hwang Chi-yeul for more than ten years. According to the interview, they wrote the words themselves, typed prompts into Suno, and moved the results into ordinary production software, sometimes singing a melody line themselves or changing the structure before feeding it back. We could not tie their names to those singers' credits on Bugs, where each name belongs to several writers. As with Thiago Navarro Music's 'Bonito, Bonito', a generated voice sings words that people wrote.

Kyunghyang also reported that the team had not registered MEOMURU's songs with KOMCA, the Korea Music Copyright Association, so it collects no standard songwriting royalty, and that it is paid for distribution through its distributor; Bugs and Circle Chart name that distributor as OGQ Blending. KOMCA published rules in August for registering works made partly with AI, then withdrew them 22 days later.

'The Adult I Dreamed Of' climbed YouTube for nine weeks

On 27 July, five weeks after release, the video entered YouTube's Korean list of the day's most-watched music videos at No. 77, with 17,927 views that day. It has stayed on that list every day since, and was No. 1 on six of those days: 17 August, 2, 3 and 7 September, and 11 and 12 October. On the weekly Top Songs chart, which adds up every YouTube video of a song, it entered at No. 65 in the week ending 13 August, then went 39, 30, 25, 14, 5, 3, 3 and 2. In the latest chart week, which closed on Thursday 8 October, only SOYEON was ahead, with 4,240,275 views to MEOMURU's 3,227,306.

Weekly YouTube views for 'The Adult I Dreamed Of' in South Korea, as a share of its biggest week (3,797,049 views, week to 24 September). It passed a million weekly views in its fourth week on the chart, the week to 3 September.

Circle Chart's weekly digital ranking first listed it in the week of 6 to 12 September, at No. 117, then at 72, 37, 24 and, for 4 to 10 October, 13. Spotify's daily chart for South Korea picked it up on 14 September at No. 103 and had it at No. 10 on 13 October. Melon, Korea's biggest domestic streaming service, had it at No. 18 on 2 October, No. 5 on 12 October and No. 3 a day later, according to Korean news reports of the chart.

On Shazam, where people identify songs they hear around them, it was No. 1 in South Korea in 14 of the 15 readings our radar took between 2 and 15 October (UTC), and No. 2 in the other. On 2 October the song under it was BESTie's 'Love Options', a 2013 track Korean listeners also went back to this autumn.

Short videos came after the climb

The Korea Herald said the song caught on because people on Korean social media set short clips to it. YouTube's own Shorts ranking for the country, a list of the songs most often added to Shorts, shows a different order. Its weekly list of 50 did not include 'The Adult I Dreamed Of' in any week from the one ending 6 August to the one ending 8 October. On the daily list the song first appeared on 7 October at No. 50, then rose to No. 4 on 12 and 13 October. By 7 October it had spent three chart weeks in YouTube's weekly top 5 and was already inside Melon's top 20. On YouTube, then, the Shorts followed the full song. We cannot read TikTok or Instagram Reels, where clips may have counted for more.

'The Adult I Dreamed Of' lyrics meaning, verse by verse

The lyric video on this page puts an English line above each Korean one; below is what the lines mean, in order. Thirteen seconds of electric guitar open the song before the voice comes in. In the first verse the singer looks in a mirror and acts as if everything is fine. They talk less and sigh longer. After a noisy day they come home, and the feelings they held in are waiting at the front door. The single's artwork shows that moment: a woman at the door of an apartment corridor at dusk, looking back over her shoulder.

The chorus arrives at 0:40 with the title line, “꿈꾸던 어른이 되었나요?”, which means “Have I become the adult I dreamed of?” Korean can leave out the subject, so the line also works as a question put to the listener. Then the worries a child never knew about land on the shoulders one at a time and press down. The video's description calls the song a quiet hello from the singer's present self to the adult they pictured as a child.

Halfway through the chorus the verb changes. 되었나요 (have I become) turns into 된 걸까요, a more doubtful “have I really become one?” It pictures dawns when the singer falls apart, and a small, 모난 self that barely holds on. 모난 means angular, with corners; Koreans use it for people who do not fit in smoothly, as in the saying that the angular stone is the one the chisel strikes. The chorus ends on “어른이라 부를 수 있을까요?”, “can I call that an adult?”

The second verse looks back. As a child the singer expected to get further and to grow up with a face that never cries. Small remarks still throw them, but they keep breathing so as not to collapse. At 2:42 the chorus comes round again and gets no answer. After the last line, at about 3:08, the voice stops and the guitars play out the final 16 seconds at about the loudest level of the song. The level rises from about half the peak in the first eighth to its top in the seventh, with one dip just past the middle. The pulse is slow, about 72 beats a minute (our beat tracker counts double, 143.6).

The rest of MEOMURU's twelve songs

MEOMURU released seven singles, twelve songs in all, between 5 May and 27 August 2026, by the release dates on Bugs. Apple Music gives three of the songs, all on the 'Learning to Hold Myself' single, earlier dates in March and April. Half of the twelve English titles on Apple Music are about growing up and getting by: 'Learning to Hold Myself', 'Is This How Everyone Lives?', 'I Want to Buy a House Too', 'Adult-ish', 'Youth on Pause' and 'The Adult I Dreamed Of'. The Korean title of 'Youth on Pause', 쉬었음 청년, takes 쉬었음 ('rested') from the monthly employment survey of the Ministry of Data and Statistics (Statistics Korea until October 2025), where it is the answer given by people outside the labour force, with no serious illness or disability, who say they simply rested that week rather than studying, keeping house, caring for children or preparing for a job. Korean news uses the full phrase for young adults in that group.

On 16 October the video of 'The Adult I Dreamed Of' had 10,751,907 views; the most-watched video of any other MEOMURU song, 'Adult-ish', had about 804,000.

We also read the top 40 comments and replies under the video that day, in the order YouTube ranked them. SPOTV News wrote that many of the comments came from people in their twenties and thirties who said the song had comforted them. Twelve of the 40 gave the writer's age: two teenagers, five aged 29 to 36 and five aged 42 or older, the oldest close to 60. Seven of the 40 mentioned AI.

Melon's No. 3 made 'The Adult I Dreamed Of' news in Korea, but it came after a climb that began on YouTube in late July. Suno supplied the voice, as the notes on every release state. Two songwriters, who put out seven singles in four months, wrote the words and reworked what came back. We expect the song in the top 10 of Circle Chart's weekly digital ranking for 11 to 17 October, and still inside YouTube's weekly top 10 for South Korea in the chart week ending 29 October.

About the data

  • We read YouTube's South Korea charts on 16 October 2026 (UTC), one date at a time: weekly Top Songs and Shorts, and the daily lists for music videos and Shorts. Our listening was done by software: the track was split into sections, a speech model timed the words, a sound classifier named what it heard, and a beat tracker and an eight-part loudness curve measured pace and level. The audio file was deleted afterwards. Circle Chart places come from its weekly digital chart; Spotify places from kworb.net, which archives Spotify's daily South Korea chart (latest day read: 14 October); Shazam places from 15 readings of its South Korea chart taken by our topic radar between 2 and 15 October (UTC). We cannot open Melon from where we work, so Melon places are the ones Korean news outlets reported with dates and times. We cannot read TikTok or Instagram. The figures on commenters come from the 40 comments and replies YouTube put at the top on 16 October; we counted them and quote none.
  • Credits come from the song pages on Bugs and Genie, release dates from the Bugs album pages, and the producer and distributor from Circle Chart and Bugs; the note on Suno vocals appears on all seven MEOMURU singles on Bugs. English titles and the earlier Apple dates come from Apple Music. The 'Made with AI' label and the description are on the official video. Details about Glory Wave, KOMCA registration and payment come from Kyunghyang Shinmun's written interview (8 October, published 16 October); The Korea Herald reported the withdrawal of KOMCA's rules after 22 days and the short-video explanation, and SPOTV News the reading of the comments. The definition of 쉬었음 is the Ministry of Data and Statistics' own. The lyric was read in MEOMURU's video description and on Bugs; two lines are quoted, with our English.
