Alena Omargalieva (Ukrainian: Альона Омаргалієва) is a Ukrainian singer and songwriter. She sang as a guest on hip-hop records released in Ukraine and Russia from 2006, formed the duo TamerlanAlena with her future husband Tamerlan in 2009, and recorded mostly in Russian with him until 2021. She released her first solo single in June 2020, and after Russia's full-scale invasion of Ukraine in February 2022 she moved to singing in Ukrainian.[1][2][3][4][5][6]

Her Ukrainian-language solo singles of 2024 to 2026 drew more YouTube views than any earlier video of hers or the duo's, and gave her her first No. 1s. 'Мужчина' ('A man', 2025) reached No. 2 on YouTube's weekly Ukrainian song chart and had spent 82 weeks on Spotify's weekly Ukrainian chart by October 2026; 'Не пʼяна – закохана' ('Not drunk – in love', 2025), recorded with the folk ensemble Кралиця, and 'Фанат' ('Fan', 2026) reached No. 1. She led YouTube's weekly Top Artists chart for Ukraine in 21 weeks between November 2025 and September 2026, and in April 2026 she won the YUNA award for best female artist.[7][8][9][10][11][12]

Name

Her channel and releases use the Latin spelling Alena Omargalieva, styled ALENA OMARGALIEVA.[6] Ukrainian media write her name Альона Омаргалієва, and an NV report of 2023 used Олена Омаргалієва; the Russian-language uploads and credits of 2006 to 2020 give it as Алена or Алёна Омаргалиева. Discogs adds the spellings Alena Omargaliyeva and А. Омаргалиева, and the Museum of Civilian Voices transliterated it as Aliona Omarhalieva.[13][14][15][16][17]

Early life and education

In a 2023 interview with Вікна she said she was born in Sumy and moved to Cherkasy as a child, and that she thinks of both as home towns. She went to school in Cherkasy and, after the ninth grade, entered the vocal department of the Kyiv college of variety and circus arts, which she named as the start of her life in music.[4][18] On TET's quiz show 'Я люблю Україну' she joked that she had finished only nine grades of school.[19]

As a child she sang at vocal contests and festivals with the help of her teachers. She said she won her prizes with the folk song 'Чом ти не прийшов, як місяць зійшов' in a modern arrangement and often sang songs by Taras Petrynenko, such as 'Зорепадом летять дощі'.[4] Focus wrote in 2026 that at the Чорноморські ігри (Black Sea Games) festival of 2009 she shared the title of best female R'n'B voice of Ukraine with Mika Newton.[20]

As students she and Tina Karol lived in the same dormitory, Karol studying at the Glière music college. In May 2026 Karol said they had been friends for 23 years and recalled being invited, as a third singer, into a vocal group in which Omargalieva and a singer called Polina from Kharkiv already sang; Karol herself was sent away from the studio during a recording and was not taken into the group. Informator added that the trio lasted about a year and that Omargalieva then sang with rappers until the duo with Tamerlan.[21][18][22] She said in 2023 that before the duo she sang with various performers and rappers and was fairly well known in Kyiv, though not across Ukraine.[4]

Career: guest singer (2006–2010)

The earliest releases that credit her date from 2006: 'Не отпускай (Римейк)' on the rapper Добрый's album 'На пути к солнцу' (LT Recordz, Ukraine) and 'Не отпускай' on Чёрный Принц's 'Написано пером...' (CD Land, Russia), on which she is also credited as a lyricist.[1][2] She sang on three tracks of the group Караты's 'Копий нет' (Moon Records, 2007), on 'Горячо' from Лион's 'Альбом номер ноль' (2008) and on five tracks of his 'Львиное сердце' (2010), all released in Ukraine.[23][24][25][26]

Career: TamerlanAlena (2009–2013)

She said she met Tamerlan online; he knew her singing and proposed a duo, and after a first try in the studio their song 'Хочу с тобой' ('I want to be with you') made them known. They first worked together only and fell in love a year and a half to two years later, she said.[4] Her video credits and Informator give his name as Yuri Tolokonnikov.[27][28] The duo's first YouTube channel, TamerlanAlenaRec, was created on 14 November 2009, and its first uploads, titled 'Тамерлан и Алена Омаргалиева', are dated 30 November 2009.[3][29] The official video of 'Хочу с тобой', posted on 7 June 2010, had 16,971,606 views on 27 October 2026.[30]

In 2010 the channel posted videos from the United States: from the Hollywood Walk of Fame in June and, in October, clips from Glendale, California, and a welcome from the singer Super Sako, who also appeared on a version of 'Хочу с тобой'.[31][32][15] 'Все будет хорошо' ('Everything will be fine') followed in September 2010, with a remix single on UA House Records in May 2011.[33][34] The duo's first Ukrainian-language song was a modern arrangement of 'Червона калина'. Its audio was posted on 10 March 2011, together with clips of the duo singing it on the television programmes 'Крок до зірок' and 'Наша пісня', and she said it was part of their 2011 concert programme.[4][35][15]

The video of 'Ты только мой' ('You are only mine') was posted on 27 June 2011 and presented at the SEREBRO club in Kyiv in August.[36][15] At the third Хрустальный микрофон (Crystal Microphone) awards, held on 9 August 2011 at the Byblos concert hall in Kyiv, the duo won ringtone of the year.[37] Videos of 'Не смотри назад' (December 2011), 'Hey Yo' (June 2012) and 'I Believe' with Ray Horton, titled for the 2012 London Olympics (August 2012), followed.[38][39][40][26] On the duo's channel she also posted solo covers, 'Hotel California' with Ray Horton (July 2012) and, later, Christina Aguilera's 'Hurt' (March 2019).[41][42] Their debut album, 'Пой со мной' ('Sing with me'), came out on Moon Records in Ukraine with 15 tracks, among them her solo 'Но мне не забыть', 'Червона калина' and two songs with Super Sako; Discogs dates it 1 November 2012, and its presentation concert, with the new video 'Может это ты', was announced for 8 December 2012 at the Byblos hall.[43][44][45] On 6 December 2012 she released a video under her own name, 'Вдоль по тихой улице'.[46] The 2012 announcement billed the duo as an RnB act of Ukraine and Russia with fans in Ukraine, Russia and the CIS.[44] The duo's channel posted videos of shows abroad: at the Pramogų bankas club in Vilnius (February 2013) and the Virage club in Germany (May 2014).[47][48]

Career: TamerlanAlena (2013–2021)

She and Tamerlan married in 2013; the duo's channel posted a wedding video from Kyiv on 8 September 2013, and in July 2025 she marked their twelfth anniversary.[49][50] 'Мало мне' came out on video two days after the wedding post.[51] The single '#НадоБы' was released on УМИГ with an Apple Music date of 1 January 2014, and 'Я буду' ('I will be') on 20 October 2015; its video, posted on 10 November 2015, had 35,603,153 views on 27 October 2026, the most of any duo video.[34][52][53]

The duo promoted a '«Хочу с Тобой» SHOW' in November 2015, and in April 2016 its channel posted concert clips from Odesa, Kherson, Mykolaiv, Cherkasy, Poltava, Dnipro, Kharkiv and Zaporizhzhia.[54][15] The 23-track album 'Хочу с тобой' came out on Artur Music on 4 March 2016, with a 27-track deluxe edition in September. 'Потоки ветра' ('Streams of wind') was released on 15 March 2016, and an album of the same name followed on 31 March 2017; the song's video had 20,778,202 views on 27 October 2026.[34][55] In 2016 she was the featured singer on 'Я поднимаюсь над землёй', track 11 of the Russian rapper Basta's album 'Баста 5, Часть 2', released by United Music Group in Russia on 12 May 2016.[56][57]

The duo described 'Покопокохай' (lyric video, 31 October 2017) as its first original song in Ukrainian.[58][59] In a March 2018 vlog the couple said they had begun building their own studio, TamerlanAlena Records, had played three concerts in Germany in one day and had sung 'Покопокохай' at a spring concert at the Palace 'Ukraine' in Kyiv.[60] 'Если что, набирай' came out in April 2018; its 3D-animated video, directed by Oleksii Ostrovyi, followed in October.[34][61] From 2018 to 2020 the duo's releases carried the copyright line of Warner Music Russia: 'Возврата. NET' (May 2018), 'Выходной' with Zvika Brand and 242 (November 2018), 'Рано' and 'Не уходи домой' (2019), and the album 'Х' (28 February 2020).[34] In the album's promotional video the duo called 'Х' their third studio album, worked on for more than two years and marking ten years together; its eleven tracks include 'Невозможно' with the Canadian rapper Magnum and 'Выходной' with the Israeli DJ Zvika Brand, and the duo said they had written all of them.[62][34]

In 2021 the duo released 'Святая вода', 'Хочешь' and 'Детка' on RML Music, each with acoustic and remix versions, and the live EP 'Детка, это Live'. In December 2021 it released 'Одна калина', a dance arrangement, with a rap verse, of a song by Ruslan Kvinta and Vitalii Kurovskyi first sung by Sofia Rotaru.[34][63]

The duo's videos of those years included 'Наши города' (July 2016), which its description says was written between the Baltic states and Germany on the 'Потоки ветра' tour; 'Она не виновата' (April 2017, 4,751,589 views on 27 October 2026) and 'Давай поговорим' (August 2017, 4,426,180); 'Возврата. NET', premiered on the channel of WOW TV in August 2018 and billed as the soundtrack of 'Леса' (3,885,140); the lyric video of 'Такси' (February 2020); 'Святая вода' (March 2021, directed by Ostrovyi, 5,803,382); 'Хочешь' (May 2021, 6,045,821); and 'Детка' (September 2021, 7,277,873).[64][65][66][67][68][69][70][71]

Career: first solo single (2020)

On 24 June 2020 she began a solo project with 'Малиновое вино' ('Raspberry wine'), a Russian-language song whose words and music she had written during the pause in concerts; Mykhailo Haidai worked on the sound and Tamerlan produced it. The release presented the project as running alongside the duo, which went on releasing singles until December 2021.[5][34] Discogs lists the single and its acoustic and DJ Nejtrino versions on the labels А+ and Студия «Союз».[72][73] Her first solo video, also directed by Ostrovyi, was posted on 17 September 2020 after a shoot of more than 25 hours on the roof of the Tetris Hall tower in Kyiv and in a wheat field.[74] On 1 October 2020 Tamerlan released his own first solo single, 'BARDAK', with the producer Runstar, presented as a pause in the duo's story.[75]

Career: the war and the move to Ukrainian (2022–2023)

She said that after 24 February 2022 the family spent two days at their home outside Kyiv, in an area where heavy fighting followed, before Tamerlan took them to western Ukraine and went back to defend Kyiv; she then lived in Poland for a time.[4][76] In April 2025 she spoke about parting with her husband in the first days of the invasion in an interview for the Museum of Civilian Voices.[17] 'Моя Україна' ('My Ukraine'), by TamerlanAlena with the producer Andi Vax, appeared on YouTube on 16 March 2022; she said the demo had been finished while the occupiers were in Kyiv region, from a dictaphone recording that Andi Vax cleaned up, and that Tamerlan wrote the second verse in a basement.[77][34][4] She was among the singers of 'Разом до перемоги' (April 2022), led by Olya Polyakova, DOROFEEVA and Jerry Heil, and of 'Mad Love (A Song for Ukraine)' (June 2022).[34][78][79] She later returned to Ukraine.[20]

In April 2023 she said the duo had sung in Russian, as almost all its Ukrainian colleagues had, and that everything changed after 24 February 2022. She gave as reasons the surprise of Poles at hearing Ukrainians speak Russian and Vladimir Putin's claim to be protecting Russian speakers, and said she and Tamerlan had both switched to Ukrainian in daily life.[4] 'Кохай', a TamerlanAlena song the couple wrote together after the invasion, came out on 18 November 2022,[80][34][28] and her first solo single of the war years, the Ukrainian-language 'Святий Миколай' ('Saint Nicholas'), on 19 December 2022.[78][81] Informator wrote that after the duo paused she translated its Russian-language songs into Ukrainian and played events and private shows, but no regular solo concerts.[28]

'На краю' ('On the edge', 14 April 2023) is a song for women waiting for soldiers to come home. She wrote it in the first months of the invasion, when she was living in Poland, and on Tamerlan's suggestion asked women with a soldier in the family, none of them professional singers, to sing its chorus with her. She sang it live for the first time at a charity concert in the hall of Kyiv's Central Railway Station.[78][27][76][4] Its video, directed by Anya Bod with Andi Vax as sound producer, had 14,853,055 views on 27 October 2026.[27] 'Боляче' (June), 'Пригорни' (July), 'Зайвою' (August) and 'Більше не буду' ('I won't any more', September 2023), which its video description called an anthem of independent girls, followed.[78][82][83][84][85] On 26 August 2023 she sang the national anthem of Ukraine at Tarczyński Arena in Wrocław before Oleksandr Usyk's title defence against Daniel Dubois.[14][86] In December 2023 she released a new version of 'Святий Миколай' with ZLATA OGNEVICH, Анна Трінчер, POSITIFF, DEMCHUK and ENLEO; the description said the idea was hers and that the streaming income would go to a boy from Chernihiv who had lost his mother and home in the war.[78][87]

Career: solo concerts and 'Мужчина' (2024–2025)

'Скільки ще' ('How much longer') with Chekson (February 2024) was dedicated to the more than 8,000 Ukrainians then held in Russian captivity.[78][88] 'Метелики' ('Butterflies', 21 June 2024) went viral on TikTok as a snippet before its release; a later video description counted more than 6,000 TikTok remakes of the snippet in five days and more than 15,000 by 19 July 2024. Remixes and versions with Andi Vax, Kolaba, DJ Igor Volya and Karmv followed.[78][79][89] 'Подих вітру' (August 2024) is a Ukrainian version of the duo's 'Потоки ветра'; she said it was the first time she rapped, although the 2020 release of 'Малиновое вино' had already advertised her first rap lines.[78][90][55][5] She gave her first solo concert in Kyiv on 18 August 2024, her first solo show after twelve years in the duo. Lida Lee opened it, Tamerlan joined her from the audience for 'Кохай', she presented two new songs and closed with 'Одна калина', and a cheque for 200,000 hryvnias was handed to two brigades of the Armed Forces afterwards.[28] A Ukrainian-language 'Малинове вино', with Ukrainian lyrics by Svitlana Krys, came out on 1 October 2024, and she sang it on the radio and YouTube show МузROOM later that month; in July 2026 the show said she had opened its first episode.[78][91][92][93]

'Твоя' ('Yours', 21 November 2024), with words by her and Anton Borzenko, reached No. 4 on YouTube's weekly Ukrainian Top Songs chart and spent 52 weeks on it; its video had 38,099,862 views on 27 October 2026.[78][94][7] In January 2025 she posted Ukrainian-language improvisations on Mariah Carey's 'All I Want for Christmas Is You' as Shorts, the most watched of which had 581,300 views on 27 October 2026.[95] The six-track EP 'Acoustic' and a filmed 'Acoustic Concert' followed on 5 February 2025; the film, directed by Oleksandr Hirchenko with the guitarist Oleksandr Leonov, has 'Коли тебе немає' in place of the EP's 'Малинове вино'.[78][96] 'Сама' ('Alone', March 2025) was filmed with wives, mothers and fiancées of Azov defenders held in Russian captivity.[78][97][98]

'Мужчина' came out on 27 March 2025. Its video description began with the line that real music is feeling, not algorithms, and warned that many AI-generated fakes of the song had circulated before the official release. In July 2026 she discussed what МузROOM called the scandal around the AI-generated release of the song.[78][99][93] Its video, with 50,738,469 views on 27 October 2026, was the most watched on her channel, and Focus called it her first solo hit to go viral.[99][20] It reached No. 2 on YouTube's weekly Ukrainian Top Songs chart in its first week and No. 3 on Spotify's weekly Ukrainian chart, on which it had spent 82 weeks by the chart of 22 October 2026.[7][8] Fakty reported in September 2025, citing Best Music's chief executive Mariana Voronina, that 'Твоя' had earned the singer €37,900 from streaming and its YouTube video and 'Мужчина' €34,400.[100] In April 2025 Omargalieva said she had put all the money she had earned and saved in the duo into her solo work, and that in the duo Tamerlan had done most of the producing.[101]

A Ukrainian-language 'Я буду', released on 13 June 2025 with a translation by Svitlana Krys, revisited the duo's 2015 song, which she called the start of a new stage for the duo and a promise she and her husband had made each other.[78][102][34] 'САМА НЕ СВОЯ' followed in August, and 'Не ходи' ('Don't go'), her first duet with MamaRika, in October 2025; 'Не ходи' reached No. 4 on YouTube's Ukrainian chart and No. 5 on Spotify's.[78][103][104][7][105]

Career: 'Не пʼяна – закохана' and YUNA (2025–2026)

In the week before the release, concert footage in which singers of a folk ensemble open the song with the line 'Я не пʼяна, я просто закохана' spread across social media; Focus put its views in the millions and said thousands of TikTok users had posted videos to it. Asked for a full choir version, she said there would not be one.[106] The single, credited with the ensemble Кралиця, came out on 14 November 2025 on Best Music.[78][79][107] In a post quoted by NV she wrote that within a day it had reached No. 1 on Apple Music and YouTube Music in Ukraine and that a Russian track was no longer No. 1 on Apple Music's Ukrainian Top 100; she described the song as Ukrainian folklore in a new sound combined with Latin American pop. She called it the fastest she had ever reached No. 1, and wrote that the song was on the cover of Spotify's Hot Hits Ukraine playlist.[13] By 20 November it was No. 1 on Apple Music's and Spotify's Ukrainian charts and No. 112 on Shazam's global Top 200.[107] The video, directed by Anya Bod and Vira Pavliuchenko with the actor Yuriy Tkach as a barman, was posted on 17 November 2025 and had 43,524,059 views on 27 October 2026.[108] An acoustic version followed in January 2026.[78]

'Щастя' ('Happiness', 5 February 2026) gave a new sound to a song with music by Mykola Mozgovyi, with Vitalii Kovtun as sound producer; she thanked Olena Mozgova for permission, and the video credits state that the visuals were made with the help of AI tools.[78][109] In February 2026 she received YUNA nominations in four categories: best female artist, best song (for both 'Мужчина' and 'Не пʼяна – закохана'), best duet and best video (both for 'Не пʼяна – закохана' with Кралиця); only Jerry Heil, with seven, and Dorofeeva, with five, had more.[110][111] At the fifteenth YUNA ceremony, held on 15 April 2026 at the National Palace of Arts 'Ukraina' in Kyiv, she won best female artist. In her other categories best song went to Drevo's 'Смарагдове небо', best duet to ADAM and Sasha Norova and best video to Jerry Heil.[12] She was a contestant in a Women's Day special of TET's 'Я люблю Україну' in March 2026.[19]

'Фанат', released on 1 April 2026, tells of falling quickly for a man who does not value the woman who loves him; in the video she plays the friend who helps the heroine see it and walk away, and she described the song as being about a woman choosing herself. It reached No. 1 on YouTube's weekly Ukrainian Top Songs chart in the week ending 23 April and No. 2 on Spotify's weekly chart.[78][112][7][10] On 7 May 2026 she appeared on Tina Karol's programme 'Дім звукозапису', singing Nazariy Yaremchuk's 1979 hit 'Стожари' as a bachata with the Ukrainian Radio Symphony Orchestra, a style she said Tamerlan had suggested; she said the song took her back to warm, peaceful childhood days.[21][22][78] 'Зійшла Зоря' (24 June 2026) features her mother's voice, and for its video she seated her wider family together at one long table laid in the Ukrainian way.[78][113] 'Музико' ('Music', 20 August 2026), with words by her, Svitlana Krys and Kostiantyn Omargaliev, shows in its video people of different trades who kept the country going in wartime; it reached No. 3 on YouTube's Ukrainian chart.[78][114][7]

Personal life

She and Tamerlan married in 2013.[49][50] After the invasion of February 2022 Tamerlan joined Ukraine's territorial defence. Viva reported in April 2023 that he had taken part in the clearing of Borodianka, Bucha and Irpin and was then mostly doing humanitarian and volunteer work for the army; in August 2024 she said he had left the territorial defence, worked with the military on Ukrainian drones, carried out combat tasks as a volunteer and would not sing while the war lasted, and in April 2025 she said he was by then officially a serviceman.[76][115][101] Her video credits name him as creative producer on thirteen of her videos, among them 'На краю', 'Твоя', 'Не пʼяна – закохана', 'Фанат' and 'Музико'.[27][94][108][112][114]

Artistry and collaborators

Her credits show her writing or co-writing the words of most of her solo songs, and the music, alone or with others, of 'Малиновое вино' and its 2024 Ukrainian version, 'Твоя', 'Не ходи' and 'Музико'.[5][91][94][104][114][27] The producer RUNSTAR, the sound producer Andi Vax, the director Anya Bod, the mixing engineer Stas Chornyi and the lyricist Svitlana Krys recur in her credits from 2023.[108][113][114][27][103] From 2023 most of her singles carried Best Music's copyright line. None of the 49 uploads on her channel carried YouTube's label for altered or synthetic content on 27 October 2026, and her credits name human writers, producers and players; the 'Щастя' video says its visuals were made with AI tools, and the 'Музико' video credits Anastasiia Popova for 'VFX/AI/title design'.[116][109][114] Writing in September 2026 about AI-generated songs on Ukraine's charts, Espreso named her with Kalush Orchestra, Шугар and YAKTAK as the only human acts left among the ten most popular songs on Ukraine's weekly YouTube chart at the height of the summer, when AI songs held six of those places.[117]
