Kavabanga Depo Kolibri, styled kavabanga Depo kolibri and shortened to KDK, is a hip-hop trio from Kharkiv, Ukraine. Its name joins the stage names of its members: Kavabanga (Oleksandr Plisakin), Depo (Roman Manko) and Kolibri (Dmytro Leliuk).[1][2][3][4] The group dates its start to 19 May 2012, when the three recorded and posted their first song, and played its first concert in Kharkiv on 2 February 2013.[5][6][7] It released six studio albums between 2014 and 2017, sang mostly in Russian until 2022 and toured Ukraine, Belarus and Russia; from January 2023 it issued Ukrainian-language singles through the label MUV while continuing to self-release Russian-titled songs, and from 2024 it toured mainly in Europe, with concerts in the United States in 2025 and 2026.[2][8][9][10][11][12][13][14][15]

'Аромат' (2024), the most watched video on the group's own YouTube channel, reached No. 3 on YouTube's weekly Ukrainian Top Songs chart and spent 52 weeks on it. Kolibri left the group in 2019 and returned about two years later; in 2026 his duet 'Червоний мак' with Zlata Ko, whose voice on that recording Telegraf and the group described as made with AI, was No. 1 on the same chart for 19 weeks.[16][17][18][3][19][20] In the weeks ending 15 and 22 October 2026 KDK was No. 1 on YouTube's weekly Top Artists chart for Ukraine for the first time. By mymy's count it had appeared on 297 of the chart's 403 weekly editions from February 2019, leaving out six weeks of 2020 in which the chart put its name on another act's entry.[21]

Name

The band wrote its name with lower-case 'kavabanga' and 'kolibri' and a capital 'Depo' on its YouTube channel and its Apple Music profile on 27 October 2026.[1][2] Early video titles of 2013 to 2015 wrote 'KAVABANGA & DEPO & KOLIBRI' or 'Kavabanga & Depo & Kolibri'.[22][23] The group used the short form KDK for its 2014 'KDK-ТУР' and in hashtags, and the Kharkiv news site Dumka called it a rap group named KDK.[22][24][25] Apple Music's biography gives a meaning for each name: for Kolibri, the light flight of birds; for Depo, a store of what is deeply personal; for kavabanga, a word Plisakin improvised before a rap battle.[3]

Members

  • Kavabanga (Oleksandr Plisakin): rapper and songwriter. Credited as a writer on most of the group's songs, as mixing engineer on several 2023 singles and as producer on most releases from late 2024; he released solo work as kavabanga in 2012 and from 2021.[4][26]
  • Depo (Roman Manko): rapper and songwriter. Credited as a writer on most releases to 2022 and, from 2023, on 19 of the 22 singles and EPs the group released itself, but on none of its MUV releases.[4][2]
  • Kolibri (Dmytro Leliuk): singer and songwriter. Left the group in 2019 and returned about two years later; he released solo work as Kolibri in 2018–2019 and from 2024 and opened his own YouTube channel in March 2026.[18][3][19][27]

Label credits gave the three names in Russian spelling on releases up to 2022; from mid-2023 most MUV releases spelled Plisakin and Leliuk in Ukrainian, while the group's self-released singles kept the Russian spelling.[4] Maxim Nifontov was credited as producer on 30 of the group's tracks from 2023 to 2026.[4]

History: formation and first albums (2011–2015)

Kavabanga told PeopleTalk in 2019 that he recorded his first track at 13, built a small studio at home and took part in online rap battles. He met Kolibri at a party in 2011, and the two went to a studio the same day and recorded together; Depo joined about a year later through a mutual acquaintance.[18] In May 2022 the group wrote that its friendship had begun ten years earlier, when the three recorded and posted 'Не прислоняться' on the same day, in a wardrobe at Kavabanga's house on the edge of Kharkiv with pillows and a blanket for soundproofing.[5] Kavabanga also released solo material in 2012: the single 'Сам за себя' (Apple Music date 1 January 2012) and the seven-track 'Kavabanga 2011-2012' (3 August 2012), on which one track, 'Ирония', is credited to all three and NaCl.[26][28] Sources give other years for the start: Artmoskovia wrote in 2021 that the group was formed in 2010, and Звёзды.ru in 2019 that its first songs went online in 2009.[29][30]

The group wrote that its first concert took place in Kharkiv on 2 February 2013, with tickets it sold itself, and that between the dressing room and the stage it uploaded its first album, 'Бесконечный шум', which the members had mixed themselves.[7][6] Apple Music and Deezer date that album to 15 February 2014 and 'Самовыдуманный рай' to 14 February 2014, both under the line Студия СОЮЗ; Apple Music's biography names 'Амфетамин' and 'Заключительный аккорд' from the debut as songs that quickly became popular and entered charts, and says the trio put out an album a year until 2018.[2][23][3] A video of 'Амфетамин' posted by the channel StarPro on 19 February 2014 had 35,805,719 views on 27 October 2026, the most of any KDK video found; the official video, posted by Артель Медиа on 3 August 2013, had 11,336,689, and StarPro's 'Город и туман' of 9 December 2014 had 6,760,892.[31][22][32] Артель Медиа, which described itself as a music label, SMM agency and concert agency, uploaded most of the group's videos until 2022.[33][22]

Video reports from 2014 show KDK concerts in Tver on 1 March, Donetsk on 7 March and Kyiv on 20 July. An invitation video for a 'KDK-ТУР 2014' listed 55 dates from 10 September to 20 December 2014: nine in Ukraine, from Kamianets-Podilskyi to Zaporizhzhia, six in Belarus, and 40 in Russia, from Stavropol and Moscow to Vladivostok and Kaliningrad, and in Kazakhstan (Astana, Karaganda, Almaty).[22] The third album, 'KDKin' (16 March 2015, 19 tracks), had Miyagi on 'Колибри' and Andrei Malikov on 'До тла'. 'Колибри' was the group's most played song as lead artist on Spotify, with 33,472,636 plays on 27 October 2026, behind only RASA's 'Фиолетово', on which KDK is featured, and kworb counted 'KDKin' as its most streamed album.[2][28][34][35] Several songs of 2015 to 2017 appeared only on YouTube, among them 'Нервы', 'Неважно', 'Наизнанку' and 'С первых минут'.[22]

History: albums and touring (2016–2019)

'#ИДИСНАМИ' (24 June 2016, 13 tracks), which closes with 'Мой пульс' featuring Andrei Lenitsky, and '18+' (28 October 2016, 10 tracks) followed.[2][28] Kavabanga said the group's worst crisis came in 2016, when the members drifted apart and he expected a split after a tour; Depo said the three then spent several months in Kyiv writing 'Зачем нам звёзды' (2 May 2017), and that its song 'Мы не спим' was about that time. Apple Music credits Vadim Alkhutov as a co-writer of all 13 of its songs.[18][2][4] 'Зачем нам звёзды, Pt. 2' premiered on VK and Boom on 9 February 2018 and is dated 14 February in stores.[36][2] The group made three songs with RASA: 'Витамин' (2018), 'Фиолетово' (2019) and 'Цунами' (2021).[2] 'Фиолетово' was No. 19 on VK and Boom's list of the top 30 tracks of 2019 and had 36,497,427 Spotify plays on 27 October 2026.[37][34]

On 19 May 2018 the group marked its sixth anniversary at the marker of the geographic centre of Europe in Ukraine.[38] In June 2018 it wrote that it was to open the FIFA Fan Fest in Moscow and, after an event organised by rap.ua in Kharkiv at which it was nominated for best release of Ukraine, that it had won the prize for best release.[39][40][41] Its autumn 2018 tour of Ukraine opened at the club Misto in Kharkiv on 12 October.[42][43] On 23 October 2018 it announced its first concerts in smaller Russian towns, and on 2 November it thanked Moscow for its twelfth concert there; from Minsk it wrote that it had played the city every year for eight years.[9][10][11] In 2019 it thanked audiences in Moscow, St Petersburg, Minsk, Kyiv and Cherkasy in March, appeared on RU-TALK, a live broadcast on the VK page of the Russian channel RU.TV, on 20 June, and announced a set on a stage at Luzhniki in Moscow for 7 September; its autumn and winter schedule combined Ukrainian cities with Russian towns from Sergiev Posad to Krasnoyarsk and Murmansk.[44][45][46][12][47] Звёзды.ru announced the group's first large solo concert at Moscow Hall for 27 October 2019 and called KDK an internet project that was selling out Moscow for the fifteenth time without the help of labels or producers.[30] In its summary of 2019 the group counted 19 songs released and concerts in more than a hundred cities, and wrote that 'Пьяную домой' had become a gold single.[48]

Kolibri released solo singles in 2018, 'Бабочки', 'Никотин' and 'Меланхолия', and the group announced '911' (30 April 2019) as his EP, although stores file it under the group and six of its eight tracks credit Leliuk alone.[19][4][49][50]

History: Kolibri's departure and the two-man years (2019–2021)

On 22 June 2019 the group posted a message to a departing member, saying it accepted his decision and would carry on.[51] PeopleTalk reported on 7 August 2019 that Kolibri had left without telling the other two; Kavabanga said the name would stay and that no replacement would be sought, and Depo said Kolibri had no intention of coming back.[18] The label credits match the gap: none of the group's releases from 'Пьяную домой' (13 August 2019) to 'Ты рядом со мной' (29 October 2021) names Leliuk as a writer; his name returns on 'Движ окраин' with Dzharo & Khanza (10 November 2021) and 'Твоя ложь' with Mekhman (1 January 2022), though not on 'Люблю, не доверяя' (3 December 2021). Apple Music's biography says he came back two years after leaving.[4][3]

The group released 13 songs in 2020, several with other acts: 'Номера' with Lesha Svik (on Warner Music Russia), 'Анаконда' with RAJA, 'Ты мне напиши' with Nebezao, 'Так и передай ей' with Eschevskiy and 'Таблетка' with Dzharo & Khanza.[2] Hochu.ua's July 2020 list of songs popular on TikTok included 'Так и передай ей'.[52] 'Таблетка' (1 June 2020), which Deezer and Spotify list as 'Танцпол', reached No. 106 on Spotify's weekly chart in Russia and No. 171 in Ukraine and was No. 29 on VK's top 30 tracks of 2020; its video had 22,935,363 views on 27 October 2026.[2][53][34][54][55][22] InterMedia called KDK a Ukrainian group in January 2021, listing 'Амфетамин', 'Город и туман', 'Заключительный аккорд', 'Девочка', 'Убей' and 'Таблетка' as its charting hits, and announced a concert at Izvestia Hall in Moscow for 13 March 2021. In June 2021 the group listed dates in Kharkiv, Dnipro, Odesa, Kyiv and Moscow.[56][57] Afisha included a KDK show among its Moscow concerts of the week in December 2021, describing the songs as sad love songs.[58]

History: the war and Ukrainian-language releases (2022–2023)

On 20 February 2022 the group announced an album for 22 March 2022, as 'Любить некого' with NЮ came out.[59] On 7 May 2022 it wrote that war had come to Ukraine and that Kharkiv was among the first cities to meet it, and announced charity concerts in Warsaw, Kraków, Poznań and Katowice with the profit going to humanitarian organisations in Kharkiv.[60] On 19 May it wrote that the war had been destroying the district of Kharkiv where it wrote its first songs and that it had held back a finished album before deciding to release it.[5] 'Зачем нам звёзды, Pt. 3' (12 tracks) came out on 9 September 2022, after the single 'Солнце'.[61][62][2]

'Серед людей', presented on 10 January 2023, was the group's first Ukrainian-language track in five years, Muzvar reported, and its first release on MUV; it dealt with life in wartime. The group's YouTube channel @mykavabangadepokolibri was created on 22 January 2023 and opened with that song.[8][2][1][16] On 2 February 2023 the group counted more than a hundred songs and more than 1,000 concerts in ten years.[6] 'Любов, як осінь' with Agape (26 October 2023), written with and produced by Artur Drohobytskyi, reached No. 29 on Spotify's weekly Ukrainian chart and spent 23 weeks on it.[4][63]

History: 'Аромат', tours abroad and 'Червоний мак' (2024–2026)

'Аромат' came out on 16 August 2024. Its official video, posted on 30 September 2024, had 28,544,713 views on 27 October 2026, the most on the group's own channel, and an earlier upload another 11,575,030; the song reached No. 3 on YouTube's weekly Ukrainian Top Songs chart and No. 137 on Spotify's weekly chart in Ukraine, and TopHit counted 57,765 radio plays.[2][16][17][64][65] The group announced club concerts in Nuremberg and Frankfurt for 9 and 10 August 2024, reported its Düsseldorf concert in September as sold out, and that month put tickets on sale for Amsterdam, Essen, Rotterdam and Cologne and added a Milan date for 15 November.[66][67][68] 'Памʼятай мене' with SKYLERR followed on 21 March 2025; SKYLERR wrote that she had dreamed of the duet from the age of 14.[4][25]

The video of 'Віскі кола' (23 May 2025) was filmed in London, Wrocław and Warsaw during the group's concerts.[16][69] In August 2025 the group announced a 'Concert Tour 2025' of 36 dates from 19 September to 7 December 2025 in Germany, Poland, the Czech Republic, the United Kingdom, Ireland, Switzerland, Portugal, Lithuania, Latvia, Estonia and Slovakia.[14] It wrote in April 2026 that it had played Chicago for the first time the year before and had been struck by how many 'of our people' had ended up there and how everyone in the hall knew every word of 'Квітень', one of the first songs it wrote in the spring of 2022; the 2026 video of 'Квітень' was filmed in Chicago.[15][16] The group marked its April 2026 concerts in Cologne, Prague and Zurich as done, and its official site marked as finished or sold out the 2026 concerts in Limassol, Gdańsk and Nessebar in August and September, New York, Chicago and Miami on 10 to 12 September, and nine dates in the Czech Republic, Germany, Estonia, Latvia and Belgium from 18 September to 18 October.[70][13]

In 2026 Kolibri's single 'Червоний мак' with Zlata Ko (18 May) led YouTube's weekly Ukrainian Top Songs chart for 19 weeks.[19][17] When KDK released a new version with SKYLERR on 29 September 2026, the description of its video said that the song's author, Nazar Berezhnyi (karmv), had given the first version to AI to perform as an experiment and that the new version contained no AI.[16] KDK and Zlata Ko had released 'Мальви' on 15 July 2026.[2] The SKYLERR version reached No. 2 on YouTube's weekly Ukrainian Top Songs chart, behind the Zlata Ko version, in the weeks ending 15 and 22 October, when KDK led the Top Artists chart.[17][21] 'Створені' (16 October 2026) was filmed in Chicago straight after a concert.[2][16]

Language of the releases

Until 2022 the group released songs mostly in Russian; Muzvar described 'Серед людей' (January 2023) as its first Ukrainian-language track in five years.[8] By mymy's count of Apple Music data, from January 2023 to October 2026 the group issued 44 releases other than remixes through MUV, all with Ukrainian lyrics printed in their YouTube descriptions or an English title, and none crediting Manko as a writer; MUV also issued a karmv remix of the older 'Убей' with Russian lyrics (26 February 2024). In the same period the group self-released 22 singles and EPs: 14 with Russian titles, two with Ukrainian ones ('Розпали' and 'Звернися до мене', a 2023 version of 'Звернися до меня' from the 2014 album 'Самовыдуманный рай') and six with titles spelled the same in both languages; 19 of the 22 credit Manko.[2][4][16][23] On 27 October 2026, 71 of the 74 regular videos on the channel opened in 2023 carried Ukrainian lyrics in their descriptions.[16]

Ukrainian media commented on the group's Russian-language releases and its standing in Russia. In March 2023 Telegraf quoted the group's online biography, which called KDK one of the most popular rap groups in Ukraine, Russia and Belarus, and commented that this was nothing to boast about.[71] Reporting in August 2023 on the cancelled Easy Busy Fest in Warsaw, Liroom noted that the festival's organiser, vpiska.pl, was advertising KDK concerts on its website, and described the group as Kharkiv natives who 'in 2022 and 2023 kept releasing Russian-language tracks and even whole albums'.[72] Espreso wrote in March 2025 that the group continued to release songs in Russian, citing 'Птицами' of 7 March 2025, which Apple Music lists as a Kavabanga solo single.[73][26] Kavabanga opened a separate YouTube channel on 29 July 2025; its 11 uploads to 27 October 2026 were Russian-titled solo songs. His solo 'Як ти?' of 9 October 2026, issued through MUV, has a Ukrainian title and was posted on the group's channel.[74][26][75]

Members' solo work

Kavabanga released solo singles in 2012 and from 2021, almost all with Russian titles, from 'Сам за себя' and 'Kavabanga 2011-2012' to 'К звездам' (19 June 2026); his separate channel had 11 videos and 13,005,593 views on 27 October 2026.[26][74] Kolibri resumed solo releases in January 2024 with 'Бориспіль' on MUV. Several of his singles from late 2025, among them 'Наївна', 'Black Baccara', 'Давай назавжди' and 'Скло блакитних вітрин', credit Plisakin as writer and producer or co-producer. Between 15 August and 15 September 2026 he released singles whose titles match older KDK songs, among them 'Пʼяну додому' ('Пьяную домой', 2019), 'До талого' (2019), 'Анаконда' (2020), 'Цілуй' ('Целуй', 2021), 'Місто і туман' ('Город и туман', 2014), 'Розвели нас' ('Развели нас', 2014) and 'Немає новин' ('Нет новостей', 2019); all seven credit Leliuk as writer.[19][4][2] His channel, opened on 5 March 2026, called him 'that very one of KDK'.[27][76] On YouTube's weekly Ukrainian Top Artists chart he appeared separately from the group in 20 weeks from June 2026, and was No. 1 in the week ending 16 July 2026.[21]

AI-related releases

Telegraf wrote in September 2026 that the female vocal on the first version of Kolibri's 'Червоний мак', credited to Zlata Ko, was created with artificial intelligence, that Leliuk sang the male part and that Plisakin wrote the song; Apple Music credits Nazar Berezhnyi as its writer and Plisakin as producer and recording engineer.[20][4] The group's description of the SKYLERR version said the first version had been 'performed' by AI and that the new one contained no AI; the same description credited Anatoliy Ruzhytskyi as 'DOP, Editor, AI Artist' of the video.[16] Zlata Ko's own YouTube channel, opened on 7 July 2026, presented her as the performer of 'Червоний мак'.[77] TopHit showed an AI badge on KDK and Zlata Ko's 'Мальви' on 27 October 2026.[65] Of the 74 regular videos and 101 Shorts on the group's channel, only the 'Віскі кола' video carried YouTube's 'How this was made' notice that sounds or visuals were altered or fully generated on 27 October 2026.[78] Apple Music credits the three members by name as writers.[4]

Chart history

The YouTube figures below come from mymy's count of every weekly Ukrainian Top Artists and Top Songs chart from 7 February 2019 to 22 October 2026: 403 weeks of 100 places each.[17][21]

  • YouTube Top Artists, Ukraine: the published charts carried the group's name in 303 of the 403 weeks, first at No. 45 in the week ending 28 February 2019. Six of those, the weeks ending 28 May to 2 July 2020 (best No. 4), were another act's entry under its name: in those weeks RASA, the singer of 'Пчеловод', was missing from the chart, the entry named KDK carried on RASA's weeks-on-chart counter (93 in the week before, 94 to 99 in those weeks, 100 when RASA's name came back at No. 3 on 9 July), and the group had been No. 69 the week before. Leaving those six out, the group was on 297 charts and in the top ten in 42 weeks. Its first run lasted 65 weeks, from February 2019 to May 2020, and the longest unbroken run 192 weeks, from the week ending 23 February 2023 to that ending 22 October 2026. It was No. 3 in the week ending 8 October 2026 and No. 1 in the weeks ending 15 October (3,609,488 views, its best week) and 22 October 2026 (3,260,834). YouTube's own weeks-on-chart counter read 394 in the week ending 22 October 2026 and had read 15 in the group's first visible week in February 2019.[21]
  • YouTube Top Songs, Ukraine: YouTube credited 35 songs to the group. One of them is a chart error: for six weeks of 2020, the weeks ending 28 May to 2 July (best No. 3), the chart credited RASA's video of 'Пчеловод' to KDK, a video it credited to RASA alone in 46 other weeks. Two others are members' solo singles credited there to the group, Kolibri's 'Давай назавжди' and Kavabanga's 'Як ти?'.[17]
  • The group's highest Top Songs entries: the SKYLERR version of 'Червоний мак' No. 2 (weeks ending 15 and 22 October 2026); 'Аромат' No. 3 (52 weeks); 'Танцпол' with Dzharo & Khanza No. 14 (20 weeks); 'Фиолетово' with RASA No. 19 (35 weeks); 'Любов, як осінь' No. 26 (21 weeks); 'Март' No. 27 (listed by the chart as 'Март (feat. Miyagi)'; six weeks from the week ending 28 February 2019, the group's first entry); 'Памʼятай мене' No. 30 (20 weeks); 'Мальви' No. 31 (14 weeks); the karmv remix of 'Любов, як осінь' No. 36 (19 weeks); 'Насолода' No. 38 (17 weeks); 'Квітень' No. 46 (six weeks). Five of its songs were on the chart in the week ending 24 July 2025.[17]
  • In 2026 the No. 1 place on the Top Artists chart passed between Alena Omargalieva (16 weeks), Zlata Ko (10), Drevo (8), MAX BARSKIH (5), Miyagi & Andy Panda (1) and Kolibri (1) before KDK took it in October; in the week ending 22 October 2026 the top four were KDK, Omargalieva, Zlata Ko and Kolibri.[21]
  • Spotify: 'Любов, як осінь' No. 29 on the weekly Ukrainian chart; 'Таблетка' No. 106 in Russia and No. 171 in Ukraine (2020); 'Фиолетово' No. 121 in Lithuania and No. 124 in Latvia (2019); 'Любить некого' No. 158 on Belarus's daily chart (25 February 2022).[63][54][79][80] kworb counted about 135.4 million Spotify streams across 83 tracks credited to the group by 28 May 2026, nearly 64 million of them on four songs on which KDK is the featured act.[81] On 27 October 2026 the group had 654,642 monthly listeners on Spotify, a monthly audience of 3.95 million on YouTube Music and 53,890 fans on Deezer.[34][82][83]
  • TopHit: 343,190 radio plays of the group's songs on 248 stations in 1,935 cities over 360 weeks; it listed MUV, Zion Music, NPRC Music, Soyuz Music, Артель Медиа and Warner Music as the group's licensors.[65]
