Added: MCK, also credited as RPT MCK and earlier as Nger, is a Vietnamese rapper, singer and songwriter. He came out of Hanoi's underground hip-hop scene, posted his first songs on YouTube in 2018, joined the Hanoi crew Rapital and became known across Vietnam on the first season of the television contest Rap Việt in 2020, where he reached the final eight.[1][2][3][4][5][6]
Added: His single 'Chìm Sâu' (2022), with Trung Trần, was the most streamed Vietnamese song on Spotify in Vietnam that year and reached No. 1 on Spotify's weekly Vietnamese chart. His first album, '99%' (2023), won album of the year at the WeChoice Awards, and his second, the 30-track 'HVL' (2026), reached No. 4 on Spotify's global chart of debut albums, according to Spotify figures cited by Tuổi Trẻ. After complaints about its words and images, Ho Chi Minh City's Department of Culture and Sports invited him to a working session in July 2026, and he withdrew 19 of the album's tracks, edited them and put them back on YouTube in September. He was No. 1 on YouTube's weekly Top Artists chart for Vietnam in five weeks of June and July 2026.[7][8][9][10][11][12][13][14]
Added: ## Name
Added: His first uploads, in 2018 and 2019, were signed Nger, written Ngơ on some streaming credits; a March 2019 upload was credited to McKey, and the video of 'SUY' in November 2019 to 'Nger a.k.a MCK'. From 2020 he appeared as RPT MCK, the prefix marking members of Rapital, and the credits of his 2026 album and videos use plain MCK. On 28 October 2026 Spotify, Apple Music and YouTube Music listed him as RPT MCK, and his YouTube channel was called 'MCK // Nger'.[2][3][15][16][1][17][4][5]
Added: He also used the name Hoàng Long, which is in the handle of his channel (@hoanglongmck) and his Facebook fan page. On the 2025 remakes 'thap drill tu do' and '2323' and on 'NGONGIODEMQUATRANGSANGDEMNAY' (2026) he took the persona Nghiêm Tổng, which the video titles credit instead of MCK.[1][18][2]
Added: ## Career: Nger and the Hanoi underground (2018–2020)
Added: The oldest upload on his channel is 'Nger - Vương', posted on 29 May 2018. In its description he wrote that the song came from an EP called 'Chào 2000: Soundtrack', that it marked the start of his songwriting, and that he had made it with an American friend, Liam Gordon. Tuổi Trẻ later named 'Tình đắng như ly cà phê', a duet with the singer Nân that Apple Music dates to 1 April 2018, and 'Vương' among the raps that first drew attention to him underground.[2][19][3]
Added: Over the next two years he posted songs, demos and live clips on his own channel: 'Blue Dream' and a live 'Anh đã quen ở bên cạnh iem' in June 2018, 'Nói' (produced by Minh Thái) in July, 'Câu chuyện tưởng tượng' in March 2019, 'HANDSUP' and 'Có Lẽ', both with L A K E and mixed by Trung Trần, in the spring of 2019, the video 'Thứ 4 Tuần Trước' in September and a Vietnamese take on 'Fly Me to the Moon', 'Phóng em lên cung trăng', in October. A clip of 'Anh biết' played with a live band at the event Không Qua Loa No. 7 went up on 28 October 2019, and the lyric video of 'SUY' on 21 November 2019; 'SUY' had 13,018,961 views on 28 October 2026.[2]
Added: As Ngơ he was a guest on teeayz's 'Phát Điên' with Trung Trần (June 2019), on Minh Đinh's 'Mỗi Khi Đêm Về' (August 2019) and on 'Không Ai Như Anh Đâu' with KayC and Trung Trần (April 2020). TGSN's 'Lollipop', on which he appears with Nân, came out in November 2018.[3][20][21][16]
Added: ## Career: Rapital
Added: Rapital is a Hanoi rap crew whose name Vietcetera explained as 'Rap In Capital'. Vietcetera's history traces it to V69, a circle Jason (later RPT JasonDilla) gathered at a Hanoi café after coming back from Russia; Orijinn, 8T and MCK, who then went by Ngơ, were among the first he met there. Vietcetera gave 6 June 2018, the opening show of the Rec Vietnam Road Tour, as Rapital's founding date; the tour then took the crew to the north, centre and south of the country. In mid-2021 eight rappers and three producers made up its core, and with logistics, media and finance staff it numbered 18.[4][22]
Added: During the 2020 lockdowns he took part in the crew's online challenges, 'What's Poppin Freestyle' and 'CORONACANTKILLHIPHOP CYPHER', in which, Vietcetera reported, his and tlinh's videos drew the most views and comments. He also appeared at Hanoi hip-hop events such as the Nảy Số Championship and Rapital's yearly Rapitality nights, and appeared at the crew's Rapitality Underdog Concert at the end of 2020.[23][4]
Added: In April 2021 Tiền Phong named him and RPT Gonzo among Rapital's standout members, both of them finalists of Rap Việt 2020. He rapped on the crew's EP 'Rapitalove', on 'Tay To' with RPT Phongkhin and on 'XTC (Xích Thêm Chút) Remix' with RPT Groovie and tlinh; Tiền Phong placed the EP's lyric videos around Valentine's Day 2021, while Apple Music and Deezer date the release 21 June 2021. 'XTC' went on to spend 193 weeks on Spotify's weekly Vietnamese chart, up to the chart of 22 October 2026. He was also one of ten featured members and associates on Rapital's 'KHỆNH' in September 2024.[5][15][24][25][16]
Added: ## Career: Rap Việt (2020)
Added: In August 2020 five Rapital members took part in the first seasons of Rap Việt and King of Rap; three left early, while MCK and Gonzo went on. On Rap Việt he was in coach Karik's team. Apple Music's Rap Việt compilations hold his stage recordings 'Anh Vẫn OK' (first round), 'M.A.Y' with Duy Andy and Yuno Bigboi (episode 8), 'Giàu Vì Bạn, Sang Vì Vợ' (episode 13), 'Va Vào Giai Điệu Này' (episode 15) and 'Dân Chơi Xóm' with JustaTee (episode 16).[4][26][15]
Added: On the day of episode 13, the 'Bứt phá' (breakthrough) round, VOV wrote that he and tlinh were among its six contestants and might face each other, called him a trap 'captain', praised his rare skill with melody and live autotune and quoted Karik as saying he had been held back in earlier rounds. On the final night, 14 November 2020, he performed 'Dân Chơi Xóm' with the judge JustaTee; Tiền Phong called him JustaTee's heir, coach Suboi said he always set the stage alight, and the host Trấn Thành compared him to a tiger let back into the forest. He finished in the final eight without being named champion or runner-up.[27][28][6][29]
Added: Shortly before the final he posted a clip defending Gonzo, who had been criticised for a remark, using coarse words of his own, and at first refused to apologise. The broadcaster HTV said it had reported the matter to the national broadcasting authority; the posts were deleted, and on 13 November he posted a letter saying he kept his views but would stay silent from then on and put his energy into music.[26]
Added: His Rap Việt recordings went onto Spotify's weekly Vietnamese chart: 'Va Vào Giai Điệu Này' reached No. 2 in the week of 19 November 2020 and stayed 57 weeks, 'Dân Chơi Xóm' No. 3 and 'Giàu Vì Bạn, Sang Vì Vợ' No. 7. At the WeChoice Awards 2020, announced in January 2021, he won the prize for promising rap/hip-hop face.[30][31][32][33][34]
Added: ## Career: songs with tlinh and 'Chìm Sâu' (2020–2022)
Added: In the year after the show he released 'Em Là Châu Báu' with tlinh (23 November 2020), made for the jeweller PNJ, 'Không Cần Cố' with her (June 2021) and 'Đìu Anh Luôn Giữ Kín Trong Tym' with tlinh and 2pillz (July 2021), whose video was directed by Phương Vũ of Antiantiart and whose credits list Sơn Tùng M-TP among the composers. In a Vietcetera feature of July 2021 both spoke about working together; MCK said he was used to making music alone but found they worked well together after a sponsor asked them for a duet.[16][23][2]
Added: He was a guest on WEAN's 'Chương 2 Của Tương Lai' with Tenkitsune, on Sol7's 'iceman' with DCOD, on Rapital's 'Thủ Đô Cypher (RPT Phongkhin Remix)' and on 24k.Right's 'Ngủ Trong Phòng Thu' with RPT Orijinn and KayC, released in November 2021 by Def Jam Recordings Vietnam. For 'No L/Chẳng giống giáng sinh', posted on 24 December 2020, he wrote that it was the first song he had mixed and mastered himself. On the show 'Cypher Call' in September 2021 he said he had tried production software and decided to stick to rapping and writing.[16][2][29]
Added: 'OCEAN', with RPT Orijinn, came out on 25 December 2021 on a beat by LOMAX, with a video directed by RPT ENTITI; the single carried the line '(P) 2021 RPT MCK, exclusively licensed to CDSL'. The lyric video 'CUẤN CHO ANH 1 ĐIẾU NỮA ĐI' with Wxrdie followed on 30 December, and a remix single on 9 January 2022.[2][16][22]
Added: On 24 February 2022 he released 'Chìm Sâu' with Trung Trần, describing it as a small preview of his next direction. It reached No. 1 on Spotify's weekly Vietnamese chart in the week of 17 March 2022 and was on that chart for 228 weeks, up to the chart of 22 October 2026. In Spotify's 2022 year-end lists for Vietnam it was the most streamed Vietnamese song and the fourth most streamed song overall, after three songs by BTS. Its lyric video, with 106,663,961 views on 28 October 2026, was the most watched upload on his channel that day. 'TẠI VÌ SAO' followed on 22 September 2022 and reached No. 3 on the weekly chart in October; 'Phong Cách', produced by LOPE PHAM and Jxnny, came out in November.[2][16][7][8][35]
Added: ## Career: '99%' (2023)
Added: His first studio album, '99%', came out on 2 March 2023 with 16 tracks, among them 'Chìm Sâu' and 'Tại Vì Sao' and a studio version of 'Va Vào Giai Điệu Này'. MCK and LOPE PHẠM were executive producers and LOPE PHẠM produced the album; it was mastered by Bùi Ngọc Quốc Linh of SaiGon Root Music, with art direction by the design studio Fustic. The guests were Trung Trần, Hoàng Tôn and tlinh. Apple Music shows a (P) 2023 AHR line and Deezer gives 311synd. as the label. All 16 tracks went up on his channel that evening with artwork only, and Vietcetera wrote that he meant the album, 16 songs about 16 love stories, as a thank-you to past loves.[36][2][16][37][38]
Added: All 16 tracks were on Spotify's weekly Vietnamese chart in the week of 9 March 2023: the 14 not released before entered it that week, joining 'Chìm Sâu' and 'Tại Vì Sao', which had entered it in 2022. 'Anh Đã Ổn Hơn' reached No. 3 and stayed 124 weeks, 'Thôi Em Đừng Đi' No. 8 and 'Chỉ Một Đêm Nữa Thôi', with tlinh, No. 9. A video for 'Ai Mới Là Kẻ Xấu Xa', directed by Ngô Phong, followed on 13 March and pointed fans to pre-orders of a CD edition and to a '99%' listening party at 1900 Le Théâtre on 17 March. Tuổi Trẻ reported in September 2025 that the album had passed 260 million Spotify streams, which it called unprecedented for a Vietnamese rap album, and Tiền Phong put the figure at close to 300 million in June 2026; kworb counted 316,641,615 by 22 October 2026. Tiền Phong reported that he was the Vietnamese artist with the most Spotify streams in 2023.[39][40][41][42][2][19][6][43][44]
Added: At the WeChoice Awards 2023 gala on 27 January 2024 he won breakthrough singer/rapper, album of the year for '99%' and song of the year for 'Anh Đã Ổn Hơn', and was named one of the year's ten Inspiring Figures; VSOUL's 'Buồn Hay Vui', on which he was a guest, won best collaboration. VOH reported that '99%' won its category with 765,130 votes, about 30,000 more than Wren Evans's 'Loi Choi'.[9][45]
Added: ## Career: YouTube singles and guest verses (2023–2024)
Added: After the album he released several songs only on YouTube. 'SODA', produced by GC, went up on 22 April 2023, and '2h' on 1 June; on 15 May he posted 'Nghe như tình yêu', his remix of HIEUTHUHAI's 2021 single, produced by Kewtiie, the producer of HIEUTHUHAI's collective GERDNANG. On 8 March 2024 came 'VỤ NỔ LỚN - KHÔNG QUAN TRỌNG' with Orijinn, Tage, JustaTee and Trung Trần, which Tiền Phong and Znews described as built on BIGBANG's 'Haru Haru'. On 28 October 2026 those four videos had 31,103,563, 23,998,038, 39,009,647 and 15,658,965 views.[2][46][47][48][49]
Added: He was a guest on the title track of Obito's album 'Đánh Đổi' (October 2023), which reached No. 7 on Spotify's weekly Vietnamese chart, on VSOUL's 'Buồn Hay Vui' with Boyzed, Obito and Ronboogz (December 2023), which reached No. 3, and on AMEE's 'MỘNG YU' (August 2024), which reached No. 3 and, Tiền Phong reported, was No. 4 on the trending list a little over a week after release. In 2024 he was the secret guest of a make-up night of the festival Những Thành Phố Mơ Màng in Hanoi, held after rain had stopped the show, and sang 'Đánh Đổi' with Obito; he said afterwards in a broadcast that no microphone or playback had been prepared for him. In August 2024 Tiền Phong reported that he had entered a rap feud with a former Rapital colleague and had posted his diss tracks on SoundCloud rather than YouTube.[15][50][51][52][53][44][54]
Added: ## Career: the Nghiêm Tổng remakes (2025–2026)
Added: On 13 April 2025 he posted 'thap drill tu do', credited to Nghiêm Tổng and produced by GAZ: a drill remake of 'Tháp Rơi Tự Do' by Lợi Bỉ, a Chinese song that had spread on TikTok and through the drama 'Khó Dỗ Dành'. Four days later it was No. 1 on YouTube's music trending list in Vietnam, ahead of HIEUTHUHAI's 'Nước Mắt Cá Sấu', and it set off a run of remakes by other rappers under #thapdrilltudo. '2323', released on 27 July 2025 with no teaser, reworked Sơn Tùng M-TP's 'Buông Đôi Tay Nhau Ra' with new rap verses; within a week it had close to 6 million YouTube views and was used in nearly 30,000 TikTok videos. Tiền Phong called the sound of both 'Jerk Drill'.[2][55][49][56][48][57]
Added: Tuổi Trẻ noted in September 2025 that he had released only those two remakes that year, that fans kept asking for an album, and that he was seen in boxing gyms more often than in the studio. 'N0L4B3L', with Thành Draw and RPT Orijinn, followed on YouTube on 5 October 2025.[19][2][16]
Added: In late January 2026 songs said to come from his unreleased album spread on YouTube through channels that were not his, and Rapital objected on its fan page. In early March 2026 he posted a Story saying he did not keep the original files, that the material had leaked without his permission although payments with the DJ and producer Lope Phạm had gone normally, and that income from '99%' due to Lope Phạm after July 2025 would go to charity; Lope Phạm replied on his own page the same night that he had not spread the music and had nothing to do with the files. In February and March 2026 he released two more remakes on the beat of Bố Lỗ Tích's 'Dạo bước Hong Kong 1999', 'DAOBUOCHONGKONG1999' and 'NGONGIODEMQUATRANGSANGDEMNAY' with marzuz, which drew mixed reactions in Tuổi Trẻ's report.[58][59][2][56][16]
Added: ## Career: 'HVL' (2026)
Added: On 3 April 2026 he posted a 360-degree trailer for a new album, 'HVL', directed by Phương Vũ of Antiantiart and filmed on eight iPhone 17 Pro phones on a custom rig, in three chapters titled Pain, Chaos and Freedom. The trailer won two Silver awards and a Bronze at the 47th AWARD Awards in Sydney on 13 August 2026.[2][60][61]
Added: 'HVL' came out on the night of 17 June 2026: 30 tracks, about 90 minutes, announced by title two months before but with no date, and posted with visualizers instead of music videos. The credits name MCK as writer, composer and performer, maiki and fujibynight of AAA Music Studio as producers and Trung Bảo of Fustic. and Phương Vũ as creative directors; the guests were marzuz, Tage, A$AP Ướt Mi, Tùng Dương, Obito, Thành Draw and RPT Orijinn. Tuổi Trẻ wrote that the opener 'Elegie' was arranged on Rachmaninoff's piece of that name and that the album tried jazz, rage, Brazilian funk and drill; Tiền Phong's review noted how often he used the name Hoàng Long and the image of an 'inner child'. The YouTube uploads carried a warning that the content was sensitive. [Dangrangto](/wiki/dangrangto)'s debut album, 'trái tim băng bó', came out the same night, and Tiền Phong reviewed the two together.[10][6][11][62][2][18]
Added: According to Spotify figures cited by Tuổi Trẻ, 'HVL' was No. 4 on Spotify's Top Albums Debut Global chart for 19 to 21 June 2026, the highest a Vietnamese artist had reached on it. All 30 tracks entered Spotify's weekly Vietnamese chart in the week of 25 June, led by 'Nếu Như Ta Chẳng Còn' at No. 6, and on YouTube's weekly Vietnam chart for the week ending 25 June he had 23 songs at once; Tuổi Trẻ counted more than 27 million YouTube views for the 30 tracks in their first five days, 'Nếu Như Ta Chẳng Còn' leading with over 3.1 million. Tiền Phong reported that 'HVL' was the second most discussed album or EP on Vietnamese social media in the first half of 2026, after BTS's 'ARIRANG'. Tuổi Trẻ wrote that 'Nguyễn Văn Mười', released during the 2026 World Cup, spread widely alongside posts calling Messi 'Nguyễn Văn Mười'.[10][39][63][64][65][66]
Added: He returned to the stage at the festival Những Thành Phố Mơ Màng in Hanoi on 12 July 2026, after two years away, according to Tuổi Trẻ; during the show he opened YouTube on his phone to put a video on the LED screen and, by mistake according to Tuổi Trẻ, brought up his YouTube Studio page, which showed estimated revenue of about US$63,000 for the previous 28 days. On 19 July he closed the CAM Gala 'Thiên Long Bát Bộ' in Hanoi with a 45-minute set; the crowd chanted 'Anh Long em fan anh em xin kiểu ảnh', a line from 'Tây Thi', and Đàm Vĩnh Hưng joined him and A$AP Ướt Mi to sing 'Nếu Như Ta Chẳng Còn'. On 20 July he released the album's first music video, 'MẮT MÔI TAY CHÂN' with Tage, directed by Phương Vũ.[54][67][68][69][70][2]
Added: ## The review of 'HVL' by Ho Chi Minh City's culture department (2026)
Added: On 28 July 2026 Ho Chi Minh City's Department of Culture and Sports invited him to a working session over complaints that songs and videos on 'HVL' contained vulgar words and images, or metaphors read as linked to stimulants; Tuổi Trẻ gave 'Tây Thi' as an example, and Tiền Phong and Znews wrote that its video had drawn the most objections. The department announced the meeting at a press briefing on 30 July and said it would review the case under the law with other agencies.[11][71][72]
Added: On 31 July he posted an apology on his fan page. He said he had used inappropriate words and had been careless in letting unsuitable audiences reach the songs despite the warnings, said the album was built on personal experience and denied any intent to promote unlawful behaviour. He said he would remove the affected recordings from all platforms, edit them before considering a re-release, ask partners to stop distributing them and not perform those songs. That day nineteen of the 30 tracks disappeared from YouTube and Apple Music, and the whole album showed as unavailable on Spotify. The 11 that stayed were 'Elegie', 'Baby', 'Mắt Môi Tay Chân', 'Đao Của Anh Vừa', 'Night In Prague', 'Một Cái Ôm', 'Nếu Như Ta Chẳng Còn', 'Ai Mới Là Kẻ Xấu Xa', 'Không Cần Lo Cho Tao', 'Huh' and 'Nguyễn Văn Mười'.[12][73][74][75]
Added: On 2 August, after some accounts flooded the department's Google Maps page with one-star reviews, he asked fans not to spread unverified information or act aggressively and said removing the songs had been his own decision. On 7 August he withdrew from the CAM GALA show at Phú Thọ arena in Ho Chi Minh City set for the next day, saying he needed to focus on editing 'HVL', and the organisers offered ticket holders a refund. On 19 August he wrote that the edits were in their final stages.[76][66][77][78][79]
Added: On 27 September 2026 he put the 19 tracks back on YouTube in edited versions, with sensitive words changed or masked by sound effects; Tuổi Trẻ reported that they were not yet back on Spotify, YouTube Music or Apple Music that day, and Tiền Phong wrote that some, such as 'Xa Xôi', kept coarse language. On 28 October 2026 Apple Music's Vietnamese store listed all 30 tracks. In October he released music videos for 'IDK', 'SLIPPERY', 'XA XÔI', 'OANH M = THUOC', 'KHÔNG CẦN LO CHO TAO', 'NHÌN KẺ THÙ CỦA TAO' and 'NGUYỄN VĂN MƯỜI', all directed or co-directed by Phương Vũ; in the description of the last he wrote that a feeling of meaninglessness and burnout after the album was catching up with him.[13][80][62][2]
Added: ## Artistry
Added: Tuổi Trẻ described him as a rapper who also sings and writes melodies, with wordplay and a changing flow, and VOV praised his rare skill with melody and live autotune on Rap Việt. His credits show him working with the same circle for years: Trung Trần as singer and engineer from 2019 to '99%', LOPE PHẠM as producer and engineer, Phương Vũ of Antiantiart on videos from 2021 to 2026, Fustic. on album design, and RPT Orijinn, tlinh and Obito as frequent guests. Tiền Phong noted that he seldom announced releases in advance and that songs he posted in the middle of the night found large audiences all the same.[19][27][2][16][36][6]
Added: Tuổi Trẻ described his stage look as unusual for Vietnamese rap, with shaved eyebrows, a studded choker, expensive heels and a scarf over his face, and his catchphrase 'ai sợ thì đi về' ('whoever is scared, go home'). Tuổi Trẻ reported that he spent much of the time before 'HVL' boxing, which fans often saw in his social media stories.[81][44][10][19]
Added: None of the 95 uploads on his channel carried YouTube's label for altered or synthetic content on 28 October 2026, and his album credits name human producers, engineers and session players.[2]
